WHAT
- After 155 days of incarceration, they "released"
Raimundo. He was found floating on the Jacui River
with the hands tied up behind his back. Witnesses say
that the sergeant, while tortured, used to sing the National
Anthem, and that irritated the torturers. After the killing,
one torturer (Sergeant Kretschoer) started to drink heavily
and tell the story of the torture and murder in bars. His
partners assassinated him. In 1975 the S.T.M. (Military
Supreme Tribunal) closed the process, "The tied hands
case" because they could not find "enough proof" against
the defendants.
HOW
- "Intense questioning," including heavy beatings
about the neck. After 155 days, released and immediately
after kidnapped. They tied up the sergeant's hands and
threw him the Jacui River.
WHY
- They found him with newspapers articles stamped
"Down with the dictatorship" and "Impeach the dictator
Castello," (first dictator of the military regime).
"It was not necessary yet to prove that I am not afraid of the death. Maybe soon this will happen. The only thing left for me now, is to repeat the words that I will keep repeating while there is still life. Down with the dictatorship. Hurrah for freedom. The People will win."
