15 - ALEXANDRE VANUCCHI

Alexandre Vanuchi

WHEN - March 17, 1973.

WHERE - Doi-Codi of São Paulo

WHO - Alexandre Vanucchi Leme,
22 years of age, Geology College Student at the
University of São Paulo; torturers of Doi-Codi.

WHAT - After the cruel killing, the people responsible
for Vanucchi's death tried to explain that he had killed
himself with a razorblade; afterwards they changed
the story by telling the media that he had been run over
by a car. "Terrorist dies run over by a car", published
in the newspaper "Folha de São Paulo" on March 23, 1973.

HOW - Severe beating, electrical shocks, ets..

WHY -Alexandre, nicknamed "Minhoca" ("Worm")
for being thin, was accused - after his death -
of robberies, one of them promptly disproved.
At the time he was being accused of committing
the crime, he was in a hospital, where he recently
underwent appendicitis surgery. He was also accused
of belonging to ALN (National Liberation Alliance).

"LATE IN THE AFTERNOON OF
MARCH 19, IF NOT MISTAKEN"

- "We heard his screams for two
or three days, and finally, late in the
afternoon of March 19, if not mistaken,
I saw his body being taken out of the
prison cell. There was a great amount
of blood scattered all over the
incarceration's patio. Later I heard
comments from the prison guards,
stating that there was a suicide, in
order to justify a general search, that
had been taken place in all prison cells."
