WHERE - PIC - Military Criminal Investigation Unit of Brasilia.
WHO - Honestino Monteiro Guimarães,
26 years of age, the latest president of UNE
(Student National Union, before its total
extinction), APML's Activist (a clandestine
Marxist-Leninist Popular Movement) since
1969, married, a daughter born in 1970;
and his torturers.
WHAT - From his imprisonment, torture and disappearance,
no witnesses or evidence were left. There are
inconsistent reports. Honestino was a student
movement leader since he was 17 years of age, and
he had been arrested a number of times. Before his last
arrest, he received a message from people connected to the
repression: If he ever failed it would be certain death.
HOW - Unknown.
WHY - "Accused of political activities
among students. He was a fast
thinker and excellent speaker."
HE USED TO BE AWAKE 24 HOURS A DAY
- "When we first arrived in São Paulo,
Honestino was 21 years old and I was 18.
He was a courageous fighter and never gave
up. Actually, he managed to keep himself
awake 21 hours a day and never even
admitted the need for some time off.
The hard political conditions of those times
ended up affecting our marriage, whereas
we always conveyed any of our marital
problems to a political-ideological level.
In 1970, our daughter Juliana was born,
and in 1971 we got divorced."
